We met Nancy at her house in the Lents Neighborhood of Southeast Portland on a sunny Sunday afternoon. As we walked onto the porch we saw multiple plant starts and all the makings of a fresh new garden in the works. Nancy met us at the door and we all decided that the best spot for an interview would be the porch with her little puppy Izzy under a blanket by her side. An absolutely impeccable host, her and her daughters welcomed us with warm coffee and she excitedly shared her story with us.

Nancy grew up in southwestern Pennsylvania. Early on she was exposed to gardening when her family set up individual beds for her and her siblings to experiment with her favorite fruits and vegetables. The beds became an ongoing project for her as she grew up and went to school. She brought this knowledge with her to Oregon, tending garden beds of friends and applying the value of gardening into her social work. She shared so much of her passion of how important it is to connect with her community and her family through gardening. Hear her story above and get to know another member of Growing Gardens in Portland!
